Junior Co-ordinators
Kirsty Seymon.
Kirsty has been involved in lifesaving since 1993. She has patrolled beaches and pools, educated nippers, cadets, seniors and school groups in beach awareness and lifesaving and holds a place on the committee. Add to this, over 10 years experience as a swim teacher to all ages, abilities and cultures, she has a wealth of knowledge to share with our nippers and a huge variety of activities to offer.
Ash Presser.
Ash is a promising young member of our club who has previously assisted with water safety and patrolling. We have been able to watch him grow through his development into an enthusiastic, dedicated and valuable patrol member. Ash is a member of the Victorian Elite Squad and has competed at the national championships. With his many competitive achievements, knowledge and passion, we hope that his experience and skills will offer some new opportunities, activities and drills to our nippers. We are pleased to welcome him onto the committee and look forward to his inspiration and motivation becoming a part of the program this season.
Our exciting new program is structured to run from Sunday November 6th until Sunday February 26th from 4-5.30 pm.
This program will offer participants the opportunity to be involved in team building activities as well as individual development whilst learning new skills. There are a range of new activities on offer this year including first aid and rescue techniques and competition skill development.
Due to the nature of the program all participants aged 7 and over must be able to swim competently over a minimum distance according to the Awards Table. See below.
It is recommended that all juniors regularly attend swimming lessons or squads at local swim schools. This not only ensures development of their technique and skills but also assists with maintaining fitness. Our junior program is full of activities already there is no time for dedicated swimming lessons.
Preliminary assessments will be conducted before the commencement of the program; all participants are expected to pass this assessment before they can participate in the weekly program. Please remember that although your child can swim 100-200m in a pool, the conditions of the bay may reduce their ability dramatically. As a result the standard of swimming in the higher age groups will be expected to be of a good quality. If you have any concerns about this please contact Kirsty Seymon for a list of local swim schools.
Lifesaving is done on a volunteer basis; all activities, including junior and senior training, are run by volunteer instructors and coaches. As a result parental assistance is required and a roster of basic duties will be clearly marked out at the beginning of the season.
There may be times during the program where water activities may not run due to poor water quality, extreme weather or inadequate water safety numbers, however land activities may still run. These are times where extra parents will be required to run simple games and activities on the sand. Unfortunately we cannot control the weather or water quality; however you can help us to maintain safe ratios whilst conducting water activities. This is a great way to get involved, have a bit of fun and you never know you may learn something that saves a life one day! Clear direction and training is available for any one wishing to help.
More information is available upon request. Contact Kirsty at mckirsty1979@hotmail.com.
***** Due to the increasing numbers of nippers we will only conduct S-Badge assessments for those nippers who will be competing and Lifesaving Victoria Carnivals. If your child is intending to compete you need to notify us so we can add them to the list of competitors through the info@frankstonlsc.org.au email address.******
